Dr. Robert Muggah oversees research on the transition and post-conflict recovery, arms control and armed violence, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) and security sector reform (SSR) in about 30 countries. He is working on mapping approaches to human security in Colombia, also leads the development of the OECD / DAC Guidance for Armed Violence Reduction and works on several panels of experts from the United Nations Organization.
He is working as a fellow at the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), University of Oxford, is also associated Households in Conflict Network (HiCN, UK) and SecDev Group (Canada). He has worked with multilateral and bilateral agencies in twenty countries including Congo, East Timor, Ethiopia, Haiti, Lebanon, Nepal, Philippines, PNG, Russia, Sri Lanka and Sudan.
His work is published in journals relevant political, academic and international media volumes. Recently he published Relocation Failures: A Short History of Internal Displacement and Resettlement in Sri Lanka (London: Zed Books, 2008), Securing Protection: Assessing the Effectiveness of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration in Post-Conflict Contexts (New York: Routledge, 2008) and No Refuge: The Crisis of Refugee Militarization in Africa, (London: Zed Books 2006).
