Currently James is a Professor at the Coastal Carolina University in the USA, he lectures in International studies. He is specialized in Latin American History and in modern history of Colombia. His most resent work is a pioneering study on drugs and violence in Colombia, published by Siglo del Hombre Editores, Víctima de la Globalización: La historia de cómo el narcotráfico destruyó la paz en Colombia.
