Political scientist at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana with emphasis on governance and Masters student at the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations (IEPRI) of the National University of Colombia.

He has devoted his research career to solve the problem of why some countries democratization processes rather than advance peace and accountability, ending on the contrary, strengthen violent conflict and affecting the criminalization of politics. In that line, wrote the book co-authored with Ariel Avila, "Democracies sale: Matches, electoral corruption, violence and crime in Colombia (2007-2011)".

Juan David has explored also the relationship between mineral wealth and social orders in the middle of the Colombian armed conflict. He has also studied the interactions between organized violence and elections.

Today, he is part of the research team CERAC, under "Analysis of Conflict and Political Violence."
